Army demolish illegal structures of Kotbazar to expand road

DOLPA, Dec 6: After waiting for years, Nepal Army has succeeded in expanding the road in Kotbazar area of Tripurasundari Municipality in Dolpa district by demolishing illegally-built structures.

Nepal Army has started upgrading the road by bulldozing the structures which were been built by encroaching the public land. This falls along the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section. So far, army has demolished 12 houses and 16 huts. Earlier, this work was halted following protests from the house owners.

On Wednesday, locals flocked Kotbazar to see the tussle between the team assigned to expand the road and the house owners. The army team succeeded in negotiating with the protestors with the support of the locals.

Bishwabandhu Pahari, chief of the road expansion taskforce, informed Republica that the structures were demolished as a part of upgrading the 4-km road between Chalgad and Supani of Tripurasundari. The army had recently opened a 100 kilometer track from Pasagad of Jajarkot to Chalgad. Preparations are underway to inaugurate the track in Kotbazar.

With the completion of the road expansion work, tractors and dozers used for the project have been brought back to Tripurakot. Chief of the taskforce, Pahari, informed that they will allow jeeps to run along the road after giving finishing touch to the road.

The 14-kilometer track from Supani to district headquarters Dunai was completed with the financial support from the then District Development Committee and local unit.
