KAILALI, Dec 5: Despite having utility poles, the residents of Dhangadhi Bazaar often had to stay in the dark. Sometimes, the electricity lines often used to break down while sometimes the transformers used to blast. Fortunately, the locals will finally get rid of all these problems after 25 years as the authorities upgraded the age-old overhead power lines with new wires.

"We had to live with fear of fire and explosion of transformers, especially during rainfall and heavy winds," said a local, Gopal Bhatta, adding, "We will no longer have to stay in darkness or be scared of being electrocuted."

The electricity distribution center of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Dhangadhi changed the five-kilometer long electrical wires from Dhangadhi-Chauraha to Telcom.

"It has been ten days since we have been engaged in changing these wires," said Dhirendra Kumar Yadav, chief of NEA, Dhangadhi, adding, "Now, there will be no obstruction in distribution of electricity."

According to the officials of the distribution center, the previous wires lacked the capacity to hold the current flow. Those involved in changing the wires claim that the work will be completed by Wednesday. Currently, the locals of Dhangadhi Bazaar are deprived of electricity from 9 am to 6 pm as the wire changing work is underway.
