DHANGADHI, Dec 3: Crusader for medical sector reforms Dr. Govinda KC has demanded that criminal lawsuit be brought against those involved in destroying evidences from the site where rape and murder victim Nirmala Panta’s body was found. He said such action would help track down the real culprit(s) involved in the rape and murder.

On November 26, Dr. KC had given the government three weeks to implement the July agreement signed with him and take action against those involved in the rape and murder of Panta and announced that he would start his 16th hunger strike if the demands were not met.

Last Tuesday, he had reached District Administration Office (DAO), Kanchanpur, where Nirmala’s step-mother Laxmi KC has been staging a sit-in demanding justice to express his solidarity with her demand.

Upon his return to Dhangadhi on Sunday following a four-day health camp organized by him in Bajhang, Dr. KC criticized the government over the lack of progress in Nirmala murder investigation.

“A young child is raped and subsequently murdered and then the police destroy the evidences and then they try to frame an innocent person through torture. They don’t search for the culprits,” he said, adding, “This all shows the state itself has committed the crime.”

The senior orthopedic surgeon of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) said that the government should be ashamed of itself. “I am myself ashamed that the culprits involved in such heinous crime are still roaming freely. This is a matter of shame for the whole 30 million Nepalis.”

Dr. KC also claimed those who committed the crime themselves are in the government, therefore, the case still remains unresolved.

According to him, suspending the police personnel involved in destroying the evidences is not enough. He strongly demanded that the government file criminal lawsuit against them.

Demanding justice for their murdered daughter, Nirmala’s parents started their ‘indefinite’ sit-in at the DAO from November 11. However, Nirmala’s father Yagyaraj Panta has been taken to Kathmandu for treatment after the started showing signs of mental breakdown in the course of the sit-in.
