KATHMANDU, Dec 1: People have staged demonstration at Maitighar Mandala on Saturday, demanding justice for Nirmala Panta, a 13-year-old girl who was brutally murdered after rape in Kanchanpur.

Individuals from various walks of life took to the streets with placards reading ‘Justice Denied despite the Presence of the Government’, accusing the government of being more despotic and depriving the people of their inherent rights to take part in the peaceful demonstration.

The youths under the Justice for Nirmala Campaign gathered at Maitighar Mandala early today and moved toward New Baneshwar and organized a corner meeting before it dispersed.

Earlier, the posters reading ‘Government Found yet Justice Denied,’ were found to have been pasted on every nook and cranny of the capital. The security personnel tore them down warning that such posters are strictly forbidden in view of the Asia Pacific Summit.

On Friday, police arrested 12 demonstrators in this connection and released them later.

Nirmala Panta was raped and brutally murdered in Bhimdatta municipality on July 27. Justice-loving people including her kith and kin have been staging demonstrations and sit-ins demanding to book the culprit. Even 126 days after the gruesome incident, the government has been clueless about it, only demonstrating its ineptness.
