Prez Bhandari to visit Poland to address climate change conference

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: President Bidya Bhandari is visiting Poland next month to address the Katowice Climate Change Conference being held from December 2-14.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that preparations are currently underway to make her visit to Poland from December 1-5. President Bhandari will be accompanied by lawmakers of the concerned thematic committee in the parliament and senior government officials.

Minister Gyawali said that President Bhandari will give the world community a message that the threats posed by climate change is real for human beings and that underdeveloped countries like Nepal have fallen in the receiving end of the problem even as Nepal has not contributed much to this problem.

President Bhandari will also take the opportunity to inform the international community about Nepal's exact challenges surrounding climate change and solicit support to mitigate these challenges.

Meanwhile, Minister Gyawali is leaving for Japan on an official visit from November 17. During the five-day visit, Minister Gyawali is scheduled to hold meeting with his Japanese counterpart and thank him for the continued support to Nepal in various major infrastructure projects including the iconic Banepa-Bardibas Highway.

Minister Gyawali, who will also be accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board of Nepal, will also seek to solicit Japanese investment in Nepal.

“We will explore possibility of Japanese investment in road, railway and modernization of agriculture. Discussions will also be held to explore the possibility of sending skilled and semi-skilled Nepali workers to Japanese job market,” he said.

Minister Gyawali will also hold meeting with Japan-Nepal Parliamentary Forum officials and Nepali diaspora in Japan, among others. He is also scheduled to visit Osaka to see various development projects and see the possibility to bring in Japanese technology to Nepal.

On his way back home, Minister Gyawali will make a stopover in Thailand and see the activities of the Nepalese embassy in Bangkok. He will hold meeting with government officials and representatives of various Asia Pacific regional offices based in Bangkok.
