KATHMANDU, Sept 8: National Sports Council (NSC) has felicitated 109 medalists of various international non-official tournaments held during fiscal year 2072/73 with letter of appreciation and cash prizes on Thursday.
NSC's Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista feted all the players on the premises of National Sports Council in Tripureshwar.
The gold, silver and bronze medalists were handed Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Altogether 35 players had won gold, 42 silver and 32 had won bronze in the last fiscal year.
NSC Member Secretary Bista admitted that the cash prize provided by the NSC was very low in comparison to the hard work done by the players. “We know the prizes we have provided are very low in comparison to the efforts of the players. But still, I would like to request all the players not to look at the money value as it is the state's recognition for making the nation proud,” said Bista.
On the same occasion, Maheshwar Maharjan, who just returned after winning gold in the 50th Asian Bodybuilding Championship, was handed token of love by Bista.
