KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Various speakers highlighted the contributions of the late Lekhnath Adhikari to the development of Lamjung district.

Launching a book titled 'Lekhnath Adhikari – From Lamjung to Parliament' Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel termed the late Adhikari a leader dedicated to the service of the country and the people. "The new generation should take lessons from the life philosophy and ideals of Lekhnath Adhikari", he said.

Leader Poudel said this amidst a program organized here on Wednesday by Adarsha Women and Children Center Lamjung to mark 80th birth anniversary of the late Adhikari.

On a different note, the NC leader noted that the proposal of 565 local body units put forward by the Local Body Restructuring Committee is impractical.

"The recommendation to make 15,000 populations a base for municipality in mountain region, 25,000 in hilly region and 50,000 in Terai or urban area is not practical anymore", he further said. Leader Poudel argued that the decentralization of the practice of structure of legislature, executive and judiciary at district level would be pragmatic.

NC central member Jeevan Pariyar said all aides should put their collective efforts to materialize the dream of the late Lekhnath.

CPN-UML lawmaker from Lamjung Dr Bhishma Adhikari underscored the need of the leader like Lekhnath for the country.

SAARC Secretary-General Arjun Bahadur Thapa said leader Adhikari's contribution was very significant for the country.

Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) Chairperson Kul Chandra Wagle highlighted the unparallel contributions Adhikari made in the national politics.

Center Chairperson Sanumaya Gurung, former state minister Ram Chandra Adhikari and publisher Binod Adhikari, among others, shed light on the various aspects of life and contributions of late Adhikari. RSS
