KATHMANDU, Oct 24: A meeting of ruling Nepal Communist Party's central secretariat scheduled for Wednesday afternoon has been postponed for tomorrow morning.

Bishnu Sapkota, the press advisor to NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, told Republica Online that the party's central secretariat meeting could not take place today due to busy schedule of the top leaders.

"The meeting will be held at 11 am on Thursday," Sapkota added.

However, a source close to Chairman Oli said that the meeting was postponed due to intra-party dispute over the party's unification process at the local levels and party's various sister wings.

"The two chairmen have yet to forge consensus regarding the appointment of office bearers at local levels and party's various sister wings, inviting chaos and mistrust among the leaders ranging from central to local levels," the source said.

The two chairmen had entrusted NCP General Secretary Bishnu Poudel to find out ways to settle the unification process.

This will be the third meeting of the NCP central secretariat within a week amid growing rift among the top NCP leaders on multiple issues including party's much-delayed unification process at the district and provincial levels.

During the meeting, the NCP leaders will hold discussion on the performance of the Oli-led government and cabinet reshuffle at a time when the government has come under fire from multiple quarters for failing to deliver its promises.

Last week, NCP leader Mahesh Basnet, who is one of the close leaders to Oli, remarked that the cabinet would be reshuffled after Dashain.

Another agenda of the meeting is to discuss about the preparation of the party's standing committee meeting scheduled for October 29 and 30, according to the NCP leaders.

The standing committee meeting is expected to set norms and criterion to settle down the party's unification at the local levels.

Earlier, the NCP's central secretariat meetings were held on Oct 22 and 21 in a bid to minimize intra-party differences, particularly between Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal who has been taking strong exception over the party leadership's decision to appoint office-bearers of provincial committees.

Submitting a note of dissent at the NCP central secretariat over the decision, leader Nepal has been demanding to scrap the decision calling it as 'unilateral' and 'non-inclusive'.

It is said that leader Nepal's note of dissent will be tabled for discussion in the party's upcoming standing committee meeting. Leader Nepal and party spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha have been raising questions over the modus operandi of the government and the party leadership on multiple occasions.
