NHRC directs govt to keep safe proof on Pant murder case

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the government to keep safe the evidence on Nirmala rape and murder case. The sample of 'vaginal swab' extracted from the late Pant for the investigation at Nepal Police's forensic laboratory must be kept safe, the NHRC underscored. 

Officiating Secretary at NHRC, Murari Prasad Kharel, said Police Headquarters was asked to keep evidence like the sample of swab and separated DNA as they are. 

Similarly, the NHRC has written to the Mahakali Zonal Hosptial, Kanchanpur, directing it to communicate the process adopted while collecting Nirmala's vaginal swab and sending it to Nepal Police's Forensic Lab. 

The NHRC held a meeting with related medical doctors and scientists and garnered their views on medical test and the investigation with evidence following Nirmala's rape and murder. The discussion made minute review on the report of DNA test and the post mortem report. 
The meeting was attended by NHRC Acting Chairman Prakash Wasti, Member Sudip Pathak, Department of Forensic Medicine, TU, Prof Dr Harihar Wasti, and DNA specialist at National Forensic Laboratory, Dr Dinesh Jha among others.
