Indonesia's death toll exceeds 1,200

As series of earthquakes rock Indonesia, death toll ha exceeded 1,200. The national disaster agency raised confirmed deaths to 1,234. Most of the attention so far has focused on the biggest affected city, Palu, home to 380,000 people with considerable damage. The death tolls are expected to rise as communities of Sigi and Balaroa have not been counted yet.

Laser scientists win 2018 Nobel Physics Prize

Scientists Arthur Ashkin, Gerard Mourou and Donna Strickland won the 2018 Nobel Prize for Physics for breakthroughs in the field of lasers used for surgery as well as scientific study, the award-giving body said on Tuesday. American Ashkin of Bell Laboratories in the United States won half of the prize while Frenchman Mourou, who also has U.S. citizenship, and Canadian Strickland shared the other half. Strickland, of the University of Waterloo, Canada, becomes only the third woman to win a Nobel prize for physics.

Around 500 families forced to drink contaminated water

Around 500 families at Hanumannagar of Saptari are forced to use contaminated water for drinking and household works. Of those consuming the water, some have fallen ill and complained of diarrhoea, pneumonia, sore throat, common cold and eye discharge. Residents have been forced to do so aftesr recent floods accumulated debris in the shallow tube-wells of Hanumannagar Kankalani municipality and Tilathi rural municipality. 

At the heart of peace lies education: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that education was the key to ensure peace, stability and bolster development across the world. Oli said so during his address at the UN University for Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica where he was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree. At the heart of his speech was education that inculcated tolerance and compassion, respected diversity and accommodated differences while unleashing the "infinite potential of human mind to answer to the problems (that) humanity faces today."

Tarigaun airport to resume its operation

Dang's Tarigaun airport will come into operation once again after a successful test flight. Tulsipur sub-metropolis and Nepal Airlines Corporation have reached an agreement to operate two flights every week, preferably before Dashain festival. The airport had remained shut for a while. 

Nepal U-19 defeat UAE by 3 wickets

In the final game, U-19 Nepali team has defeated UAE by three wickets with five balls remaining. Chasing the target of 269 runs set by the UAE team; Nepal scored 275 runs losing seven wickets and secured its consoling victory in the ongoing ACC U-19 Asia Cup, Bangladesh on Tuesday.
