KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Alleging that the draft bill on child rights 2075 BS promotes child labor, a group of child rights activists have torn down copies of the bill during a program organized jointly by the government and various development partners including a UN agency in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The activists affiliated to National Campaign for Child Rights (NCCR) had torn down the copies of the draft bill during the Girls' Summit organized at City Hall in Kathmandu shortly after Acting Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel exited the venue after his inaugural address. They had chanted strong slogans such as “Down with Girls' Summit” and “Stop Dollar Farming”.

The NCCR activists including Prabin Silwal, Dhiraj Joshi, Raja Ram Basnet, and Akriti Khadka had raised questions regarding some of the controversial provisions of the bill with those in the panel. But as the organizers allegedly disrupted the mike when they were putting forth their views, the activists then climbed up the stage and torn down the copies of the bill.
