KANCHANPUR, June 20: Solar-powered electric wire fencing has been set up to prevent wild elephant menace at Baduwal neighborhood of Dodhara Chandani Municipality in Kanchanpur.

The solar-energy based electric fencing was installed at an area covering four km with support from Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve to minimize the losses incurred by wild tuskers that stray into the human settlement, according to Chief Conservation Officer, Ved Kumar Dhakal.

"Every year the elephants coming through the Indian forest at Baduwal, which borders India, have been destroying crops and vegetation, so we believe setting up electric fence will help minimize the damages," Dhakal shared. The Baduwal area houses 669 families from 125 households. RSS
