Nepal to host Group E matches of U-16 Women’s C’ship Qualifiers

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Nepal U-16 women’s team will kick off its AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers facing the Philippines on Wednesday.

The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) will host all the matches of Group E that consists of host Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar and Malaysia. The matches will be played at the Armed Police Force’s Halchowk Stadium in Kathmandu. 

Nepal will take on Myanmar on Friday and Malaysia on Sunday. 

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, the ANFA announced that preparations have been completed for the matches. 

A total of 30 Asian nations are taking part in the qualifiers in various host countries. The teams are divided into six groups. All groups have five teams each except Group E, as one of its teams Syria withdrew from the tournament.

Top two teams of each group will advance into the final round of the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship. 

The winner, the runner-up and the third-placed teams of the last edition of the tournament -- North Korea, South Korea and Japan respectively -- have entered directly into the final round of the tournament.

The ANFA said that the total budget of the Group to be held in Nepal is estimated to be Rs 13.5 million. The AFC has provided the association with Rs 13.9 million (USD 120,000) is assistance to organize the qualifying games.

The Philippines team arrived in Nepal three days ago, while Myanmar and Malaysia arrived on Monday. Head coach and former national women footballer Ganga Gurung has been preparing the team for the tournament.
