5 things about Sirjana Subba

Sirjana Subba was pursuing a career in modern dance until she found herself engaged in the theaters in 2006. She found fame when she made a leap into the silver screen, where she portrayed key characters in ‘Aawaaj’, ‘Loot’, and ‘Loot 2’. Her performance in ‘Dying Candle’ is among her most notable works. For her influential role in Dying Candle, she bagged the Best Actress award in Kamana Film Award (2017).

Subba is also the vice-chairperson of Mandala Theater. Currently, she is essaying the role of ‘Jaljala’ in the play ‘Jalini’.

In a conversation with My City’s Sonam Lama, Subba revealed five things that many may not know about her.

Wanderlust
Subba is fascinated by the raw beauty of the remote areas and tranquility of the Himalayas. She has trekked to various destinations across Nepal, including Manang, Mustang, and Poonhill.
“The trek to Annapurna Base Camp is my most memorable trip so far. We hiked for eight days, and the breathtaking views there overwhelmed me to tears,” said Subba.

Into gym and zumba
She starts her day by going out for a morning walk. When time’s on her side, she also goes to Zumba classes or hits the gym.
“My daily schedule is quite hectic. I barely have the time to reflect upon myself. Therefore, going for a walk provides me with some alone time,” expressed Subba.

Adventurous
Subba fancies visiting new places and taking on new adventures.  She has been fond of cycling and hiking since her early childhood.
“I have tried bungee jumping, paragliding and canoeing but now I wish to try my hands on rock climbing. I am planning to travel to Everest Base Camp, Rara Lake, and Kanchenjunga Base Camp within the next two years,” she stated.

Keen dancer
Before theater caught her fancy, she heavily indulged herself in dancing and also worked as a dance teacher in several schools. She has also taken formal lessons in freestyle dance from Rajdhani Kala Kendra.
“Dancing is an all-time favorite thing to do although I am much occupied by theater these days. I can hardly resist myself from hitting the dance floor when loud music is played at parties,” laughed Subba.

Outspoken
Although people at work may find it difficult at times to cope with her trait of putting things straight, she cannot help but speak her mind out.  “It is only on stage that I have to conceal my true identity to fit into a character. I am simply an outspoken person behind the curtains,” she added.
