Nawayug Shrestha is a household name in Nepal, and he plays as a forward for Nepal’s football national team. He made his international debut with the national team against India in 2015 . He got the limelight when he managed to save the team scoring a hat trick against Maldives during the semi finals of the Bangabandhu Cup 2016. 



He shares with Republica’s Prasansha Rimal five things many may not know about him.



An outgoing person

As intense as he seems during the football matches, he is more of an extrovert and an outgoing person in real life. He likes interacting with people and is easy to get along with him. He doesn’t hesitate to talk to a fan as he appreciates them being around. He tries his best to make time for them.


Fan of Real Madrid 

He really enjoys watching the tactics and game play of Real Madrid. He has been following the club for a long time and is really inspired by players like David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Sergio Ramos. He even watches the mid-night games of La Liga. But he isn’t blind supporter of the club and believes that the deserving team should win.

Enjoys watching war movies 

Nawayug likes to watch movies in his leisure time. He prefers to watch war movies and action movies. He watches both Bollywood and Hollywood movies and likes actors such as Salman Khan, Amir Khan, Hritik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor. He likes acting of Hollywood actor Van Diesel and Fast and Furious is one of his favorite movies.


Would have been a cricketer

This aspiring footballer was engaged in sports since a very young age. He also used to play cricket with his friends during his high school days. He trains everyday to keep himself fit for the match. Since being exposed to outdoor games from a very young age, he shares a passion for both football and cricket and would have been a cricketer if not for football. 


Prioritizes self improvement

 Being a hardworking player, Nawayug always separates his time for watching his games after the match. He wants to improve himself and deliver much better performance in the upcoming game. He prefers to switch his role as a leader and a follower according to the situation as he believes that is how once excels in game.
