BARDIYA, Sept 3: The mysterious death of Ram Manohar Yadav in a hospital while he was still under police custody has raised suspicion of foul play.

Family members of Yadav, who is one of the four supporters of CK Raut arrested by police for investigation, have suspected the involvement of police in his murder.

Yadav, 30, of Janaki Rural Municipality-6 in Banke district died on Friday night while undergoing treatment in a Kathmandu-based hospital. Police reportedly informed the family members that Yadav passed away at 2 am on September 1. Yadav's younger brother Bimal, who is awaiting post-mortem report from Kathmandu-based Trauma Center, suspects that his brother was possibly murdered.

“He was in good health when police arrested him. If not murder, what could possibly explain his mysterious death?” questioned Bimal, who had arrived in Kathmandu from Malaysia on Saturday after taking leave from his employer following his brother's demise.

According to him, the family members are preparing to file an application requesting an investigation into his death.Assistant Sub Inspector Nim Bahadur Basnet informed that Yadav's post-mortem could not be carried out on Saturday. “We are hopeful that the report would come out on Monday.”

A few days before his death, police had reportedly taken Yadav to Bardiya District Hospital for the treatment of high blood pressure. According to a doctor from the hospital, they had suggested him to be taken to Nepalgunj-based hospital for further treatment.

Police said Yadav, who had lost consciousness on Thursday morning, was taken to Kathmandu for additional treatment via Bardia and Banke after treatment was not possible there. They stated that Yadav died while undergoing treatment at Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).

The deceased Yadav is survived by two sons and a daughter. The children are now helpless, said his relative Jafar Yadav.

Police had arrested Manohar on August 23 from a program in Gulariya which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Upendra Yadav. He was arrested for showing the minister a black flag in protest.
