NEPALGUNJ, Sep 1: Tension flared after a ‘group of nationalist youth force’ put up a monument of late King Birendra Birabikram Shah at Dhamboji Chowk in Banke district on Thursday.
The tension ran high after the ‘nationalist youth cadres’ erected the statue at the junction ten years after the monarchy was overthrown.
The statue of the late king had been removed from the junction following the protest by the Federal Democratic Republican forces during the People’s Movement II in 2006.
According to police the youth force had informed them that they were planning to put up a national flag at the junction. However, the police had to intervene in the program after the youths started erecting the monument of late King Birendra.
A huge number of security personnel have been deployed at Dhamboji Chowk to prevent any untoward incidents.
The police dispersed the youths while they were shouting slogans, “Come King, Save Nation!” after unveiling the monument.
