Experts stress cooperation for inclusive development

KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Experts have said that South Asian countries including Nepal should move forward deepening economic cooperation within the region and also with other Asian countries for inclusive and balanced economic development of the south Asian region. 

Speaking at an inauguration program of a 10-day long discussion program 'The Kathmandu Dialogue' organized by the Kathmandu School of Law on Tuesday, Govinda Prasad Kusum, member of the public service commission, said that Nepal has entered a progressive stage with the formulation of the new constitution and it should now strive to deepen economic cooperation with South Asian and other Asian countries including China to realize the goal of shared future and inclusive development. 

The program was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel. The theme of the program is 'International Law and The Asia Pacific Connectivity for the Shared Future Through Economic and Social Interaction'. A total of 45 delegates from six different countries including India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and Uganda are participating in the program. The delegates will deliberate on various topics including Asian perspectives on international law and international relations, connectivity: South Asia and China, Democracy and Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, Sustainable Development and Climate Change and The South Asian Debate and Belt and Road Initiative in the program. The program will conclude on August 31.  

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday, Ismail Khan of Pakistani Institute for Peace Studies said that South Asia is the less integrated region in the world despite cultural similarities across the region and it is high time that the south Asian countries came together and further deepened economic cooperation for the inclusive growth of the region. 

The program was attended by Brigadier General of Nepal Army Gokul Bhandari, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong and other experts from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University and representatives of Sichuan University.
