Business entrepreneurs of the area have increased the prices by 25 percent as food items have to be ferried using horses and mules during the rainy season due to poor roads. [break]
We have to pay exorbitant prices while buying rice due to its shortage, said a local Ganga Ram BK. "When the goods are transported by vehicles, we used to pay Rs 1,100 for a sack of 25 kg rice," BK said, adding, "Now we pay Rs 1,600 for the same."
The price of sugar per kg has shot up to Rs 120 from Rs 90 per kg. Similarly, a packet of salt costs extra Rs 30 now.
Transport services come to halt on the poorly maintained roads in the district during monsoon. Consumers are hard hit as there is no other options.
Vehicular movement in Rukumkot, Kakri, Radijyula and Magma remains closed during monsoon due to poor conditions of the roads.
