NSC felicitates more than 500 outstanding players

KATHMANDU, July 30: The National Sports Council (NSC) has felicitated more than 500 players who have won medals in the national and the international tournaments or participated in the Olympics, by awarding cash prizes, on Sunday. The total amount of the awards was Rs 7.48 million.

The NSC felicitated 407 players who won medals in different tournaments in the last fiscal year, 80 who took part in the Olympics, eight winners of gold and other medals in the Asian Games, 94 gold medalists in the South Asian Games (SAG), and gold medalists in the NSC championships. 

The Ministry of Youth and Sports rewarded five players who won two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the championships. 

Players who waved Nepal’s flag in the Olympics until now were felicitated with a policy of providing them an allowance of Rs 3,000 each month as an incentive.  Likewise, players who won medals in the history of Asian Games were also rewarded. They were given Rs 40,000 each, in installments of Rs 5,000 for eight months. 

Likewise, the 94 players who won gold medals in the SAF Games were also rewarded with Rs 40,000 each in installments of Rs 5,000 of eight months. Among them, taekwondo’s Deepak Bista won four golds, Sangeena Baidhya won two, athletics’ Baikuntha Manandhar won three and karate’s Deepak Shrestha claimed two. 

Likewise, the gold medal winning duo of the first World Kun Khmer Championship 2017 in Cambodia, Anisha Khadka and Rahul Thoker, were rewarded with Rs 100,000 each, the silver medal winner of the ninth WBPF Bodybuilding and Fisku Sports Championship 2017 in Mongolia, Nanita Maharjan, was given Rs 65,000, while  bronze medal winner Rupesh Shahi was felicitated with Rs 35,000. Also, the bronze medal winner of the 51st Asian Men’s Bodybuilding Championship, Kamal Bhandari, was rewarded with Rs 35,000. 

Likewise, the ministry also felicitated Nepal Television’s Raju Silwal and BBC Nepali Service’s Niranjan Rajbanshi with Rs 50,000 each for their contribution to Nepal’s sports journalism. 

The best men and women players of the NSC championships under 30 different games were rewarded with Rs 15,000 each. Cash awards worth a total of Rs 1.925 million were given to players who won medals in other national and the international tournaments.
