KATHMANDU, July 24: The government is preparing to hold a meeting with Dr Govinda KC, who is in hunger strike for the past 25 days, the longest so far. The meeting is reported to be held on Tuesday evening.

The government has formed a 3-member high-level talk team led by the secretary at the Ministry of Education, Khaga Raj Baral last week. However, Dr KC turned down to hold talks with the government team.

On Tuesday afternoon, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepal Communist Party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal hold a meeting with the coordinator of Mathema task team Kedar Bhakta Mathema and chairperson of Nepal Medical Council Dr Dharma Kanta Baskota to find out a way to address the demand of Dr KC and Medical Education bill.

“Following the meeting with Prime Minister, I am very optimistic”, said Mathema to myrepublica and added,” I found PM very concerned over the health condition of Dr KC and the quality of medical education. He is looking for paving out the way very soon”.  The government has given all necessary mandates to the talk-team, said Mathema quoting PM Oli.

PM Oli and chair Dahal urged Mathema and Baskota to help in resolving the ongoing deadlock. Mathema informed that the meeting was focused on ending the ongoing hunger strike of Dr KC addressing his demand. He added that he clarified his point of view regarding the ban on new medical colleges in Kathmandu for next ten years and the affiliation to 5 medical colleges by one university, which are recommended in the report as well.
