Five killed, five injured and nine houses damaged in Dhading landslide

MALEKHU, Dhanding, June 28: Five persons of two families died while similar numbers of people were injured and nine houses were damaged in a landslide triggered by incessant rain at two different places in Dhading on Wednesday night. 

The landslide occured at Saiswaran and Cheurikharka at Khaniyabas Rular Municipality-5 of Khaniyabas Rural Municpality-5 in the district claimed the lives of Raju Gole's wife, Basodha Gurung, 35, his two daughters--10-year-old Laxmi Gurung and 5-year-old Saraswati Gurung, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Ram Bahadur KC. 

Apart from the loss of lives, Gole also suffered loss of priorities. His house also suffered complete damage in the incident, said DSP KC, adding that Gole and his 12-year-old son Bikash Gurung have escaped unscathed. 

Similarly, another house at Cheurikharkha has been buried under the landslide debris. Shumsher Ghale, 65, and his spouse Kopchi Ghale, were also buried in the incident, police said. 

They could not escape the landslide as they were sleeping when the landslide hit. The villagers pulled out the dead bodies from the debris today morning in support of security personnel. 

Likewise, the landslide at Todke has caused damages to the houses of Hari Bahadur Rijal and Lal Bahadur Thapa Magar. 

According to a local, Gopal Rijal, 12 families of Todke area have been shifted to Madkila village as their village is also at high risk of landslide. 

Meanwhile, houses belonging to Deepak Gurung, Man Bahadur Gurung, Santa Man Gurung, Bir Bahadur Gurung and Dal Man Shrestha of Dhokarpur village in Netrawati Dapjong Rular Municipality-1 in the district have been damaged by the landslide. 

Those sustaining injuries in the landslides are Harimaya Tamang, 69, Santaman Tamang, 65, Mina Kumari Shrestha,60, who are currently receiving treatment at the local health post. 

The landslide at Pakhribote at Khaiyabas Rural Municipality-4 in the district caused damages to three houses and injured Rabin Gautam, 23, Kalpana Gautam, 23 and Reshmi Gautam, according to police. 
Since the disaster-hit areas are situated in a one-day walk away from the district headquarters and the roads leading to these places are damaged due to rain and landslide, security personnel in the district headquarters have not been able to reach those places. 

Chief District Officer (CDO) Bhagirath Pandey shared that a team led by Rammani Mishra of the District Administration Office has been dispatched to disaster-hit areas.
