43 parties out of proportional representation election

According to the Election Commission, 143 parties are registered in total. Among them, 100 parties have applied for PR election purposes, while the remaining 43 have not submitted such applications.

KATHMANDU, Dec 10: A total of 43 political parties will remain outside the proportional representation (PR) electoral process. These parties did not submit applications for registration specifically for the PR system in the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.



According to the Election Commission, 143 parties are registered in total. Among them, 100 parties have applied for PR election purposes, while the remaining 43 have not submitted such applications.


The commission had allocated December 7, 8 and 9 as the timeframe for parties to apply for PR election registration. Within the given deadline, only 100 parties submitted their applications.

The commission plans to review the submitted applications and grant approval by December 12. Parties must submit their closed lists of PR candidates on Poush December 28 and 29.


The preliminary PR candidate list will be published on January 18. After reviewing complaints and objections, the final closed list will be published on February 3.


A total of 275 members will be elected to the House of Representatives through a mixed electoral system: 165 through first-past-the-post (FPTP) and 110 through proportional representation.


For the FPTP seats, candidacy nominations are scheduled for January 20.
