KATHMANDU, May 28: The government has decided to allow those civil servants who had earlier applied for voluntary retirement under a scheme announced by the previous government, to withdraw their applications.

After the former Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government introduced the voluntary retirement scheme for civil servants of over 50 years or who have worked in the government service for over 20 years, a total of 9,656 civil servants had applied for the scheme.

A cabinet meeting held at Baluwatar on Sunday made the decision to this effect, informed Information Minister Gokul Baskota, who is also the government’s spokesperson.

Instead of providing blanket retirement to all the officials who have sought voluntary retirement, the government has been making preparations to allow voluntary retirement only to those with compelling reasons. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has lately halted voluntary retirement process meant for those government employees unwilling to work under the new federal setup.

Similarly, the meeting also renewed labor agreement between Nepal and South Korea and endorsed Labor Directive-2075.
