RAJBIRAJ, Aug 21: Chandra Kala Devi Mandal, 22, of Behli Chapeni has been undergoing treatment at Gajendra Narayan Singh Zonal Hospital at Rajbiraj after being abused by her family members.

The two-month pregnant woman was beaten mercilessly by her husband Binod Mandal and father-in-law Shiva Narayan Mandal for 'talking with an outsider'.

My husband and father-in-law not only thrashed me but also kicked me out of home, Chandra Kala told Republica. She said that they started beating her just for speaking with other people. Her husband and father-in-law started domestic violence against her just after 15 days of marriage, she informed.

“I've got nothing else except torture from my in-laws,” she said. “Recently, they had agreed not to thrash me in front of society,” she said, “But they started repeating the same routine of thrashing.”

“They beat me black and blue,” she said. “My husband and father-in-law used to beat me while my sister-in-law and mother-in-law used to confine me inside the room.”

Chandra Kala has sustained injuries to her head, breast and her back. She is not in a condition to speak with ease due to injuries. She said she is being mistreated despite her parents giving enough money and properties as dowry before marriage.

“My father had given Rs 200,000, half tola gold and properties worth Rs 800,000 at the time of marriage,” she said.

The District Police Office has taken her husband and father-in-law under custody after receiving complaint from her, DSP Bhim Prasad Dhakal said. Santosh Mandal, brother of Chandra Kala, had filed First Information Report (FIR) at the police office charging Chandra Kala's husband and father-in-law of attempted murder.
