KATHMANDU, April 1: The Indian Embassy, on Saturday, organized “Cookout at Dwarika’s Hotel with MasterChef Ms. Shipra Khanna” a cooking event with MasterChef India Season 2 winner Shipra Khanna.

The event, attended by many ambassadors to Nepal, was a fun event where, facilitated by Shipra, the ambassadors had to try their hand at cooking. [break]

The program was hosted by H. E. Jayant Prasad, Indian Ambassador to Nepal.

The event was attended by 16 ambassadors from France, Australia, China, Russia, Switzerland, UK, Japan and India.

Under Shipra’s guidance the ambassadors tried their hand at cooking a three course meal that included appetizer, Jumla and Rasuwa bean falafel with apple salsa; Entrée, Beetroot risotto with baked jalkapur and cream chili sauce and dessert, Yam mousse with strawberry compote.

Shipra demonstrated how the event would progress by starting with a demonstration with the starter, summer bruschetta with tomato, tomme cheese and cucumber.

“It’s really boring if people just sit down and order,” said 30 year-old Shirpa adding, “I think cooking is this universal way of bringing people together, even though we don’t understand each other’s language we connect through food.”

During this event, Republica sat down with the young chef for a brief chat.

How did you end up on MasterChef India?

It was a fluke, really. I was planning on forwarding my career and going my masters but my mom ended up filling up the online form, I got selected and there I was.

How passionate about cooking are you?

For me cooking is an art and the more you cook with love, the more you reach out and touch other people. Even if you don’t know the other person’s language, food is one common thing that can bring people together.

How do you feel now that you’ve won?

It a complete honor to be the winner and hold the title but it also comes with a lot of responsibility and I’m just trying to live up to it. My life has changed as well because I’ve been travelling and tasting a lot of different cuisines and it’s good because I can explore new food and ingredients.

What are your favorite foods?

I love a lot of foods, I love Tandoori chicken a lot and Italian. French food is really nice to cook as well.

What have you planned for the future?

I think I will pursue this as a career because it’s very versatile and has got a future because everyone loves food. I do plan on opening up my own restaurant in the near future but I still have lots to learn and experience about food though.
