Bhat, Rai win TAAN International Langtang Marathon

RASUWA, May 20: Departmental Team Tribuhuvan Army Club’s Khagendra Bahadur Bhat completed the run in 3 hours 49 minutes and 27 seconds to win the third Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) International Langtang Marathon for Men held in Rasuwa on Saturday.

Altogether, 56 participants attended the race according to TAAN for the annual marathon event organized in Rasuwa since 2016. The objective is to convey the message that these places are now safe to host normal flow of tourists and foreigners to explore local scenic places.

In all Army triumph, Bharat Khatri and Subash Karki finished first and second runner up completing the marathon in 4 hours 6 minutes and 27 seconds and 4 hours 7 minutes and 58 seconds. In women category, Nirkala Rai came triumphant completing the marathon in 4 hours 57 minutes and 13 seconds followed by Purnu Maya Rai (5 hours 26 minutes and 19 seconds) and Army Club’s Sarita Basi (5 hours, 52 minutes and 2 seconds) at first and second runner-up places.

The marathon was started at 8 am in the morning starting from Kyangjing Gumba to ending at Syafrubeshi via Ghodatabela, Sherpa Gaun and Khanjim informed Ritu Gyamdan, the manager of marathon. The total length of the marathon was 42.195 kilometers and the height from the sea-level was recorded at 3,870 meters. The winner of the marathon received Rs 105,000 whereas the runner-ups bagged Rs 78,750 and Rs 52,500 respectively. The local residents of Rasuwa had free registration for the race. Foreign participants had to pay 75 dollars and other national runners paid Rs 2,500 for the registration.

The organizers emphasized continuation of the marathon to establish Langtang route as next best destination for tourists after Everest and Annapurna range.
