MORANG, Sept. 27: In the wake of the eighth district convention of Nepal Press Union Morang chapter, a total of 42 members of the Press Union have called it quits on Wednesday following the internal feuds in the organization. The eight district convention is taking place on Friday.

Aspiring chairman of the district committee Bhojraj Basnet and 41 other members resigned collectively as the Press Union members failed to reach a consensus to elect Basnet to the post unopposed. Kumar Luintel has also claimed his stake for the leadership.

Journalist Rupendra Sherma said they resigned en masse after the journalists from the eastern belt in Morang were neglected from the Press Union though there are around 40 per cent of the total members in the district committee from the region. Sherma also announced to continue journalism without his political affiliation. Earlier, Sherma had resigned as the press coordinator of Mayor of Urlabari Municipality, Khadga Phagoo.

However, district committee chairman of Union Min Kumar Nabodit said consensus would be forged with the disgruntled members by holding consultations. RSS
