KATHMANDU, May 17: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, one of the two co-chairs to lead the newly formed Nepal Communist Party said that the party merger was guided by the need of Nepal and Nepali people.

“This is a historical moment and everyone was skeptical of our merger,” Dahal said adding that he along with KP Sharma Oli, the other co-chair were scorned for the merger.

“We’ve come a long way,” Dahal said adding that they were committed to the cause and were always determined to push the country towards development. “This merger’s ultimate aim is to push the country towards socialism by ensuring development and bringing change in the lives of people.”

“I am proud to say that we’ve accomplished our determination and would like to congratulate all communist forces of the country,” Dahal said.

“With this merger, we once again express our commitment for development and prosperity of the nation,” Dahal said adding that while many communist parties led revolutions, once they acquired power, they became replica of the power that they detested.

“We will not follow the same plight. Instead, we will become a force that will understand and acknowledge modern dynamics to lead the country towards prosperity,” Dahal said.

The major communist parties of Nepal, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) merged after 54 years.
