First death anniversary of Dr Prapannacharya observed

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The first death anniversary of Dr Swami Prapannnacharya, a noted scholar of Sanskrit, has been observed amid a program organized by a group here today.

The organization-Dr Swami Prapannacharya Support Group-set up to garner support for treatment for ailing Swami Prapannacharya before he died last year, organized the program at Mrigasthali in Pashupatinath Temple premises where he was interred.

On the occasion, various personalities spoke about the contributions made by the Swami to the oriental philosophy as well as how he rewrote the Vedic literature in a layman's language to let a layman understand it.

Present at the program were Swami Bhagawatananda Giri, astrologer Ojraj Lohani, Yogi Naraharinath Spiritual Council Chief Shanker Poudel among others commended Swami Prapannacharya for rising above his original Rai clan and community to promote and propagate Vedic culture and tradition.

Swami Prapannacharya, who died at the age of 92 in a quiet morning of August 21 in 2015 due to prolonged prostate and respiration-related ailment, was recently conferred Mahabidyawaridhi title by Nepal Sanskrit University.

A writer of numerous books on Vedic literature, Swami's ' Ved ma K chha?' (What is in the Vedas?) was widely recognized by the readers.

During today's program, Vedic mantras were chanted at his tomb and later the Saints, Sadhus and the poor were offered free food.

It was shared various articles penned by Swami Prapannacharya will be collected and compiled into a book. RSS
