KATHMANDU, May 9: Acting Chief Justice (CJ) Deepak Raj Joshee has said that the independence of the judiciary cannot be compromised for the sake of political stability.

Issuing a message on the eve of the Law Day on Tuesday, the Acting CJ said that the independence of the judiciary is as significant as that of the other organs of the state.

“The judicial job being carried out by the judiciary is significant. It cannot be compared with the tasks of the other organs of the state,” the message reads, adding, "In order to secure the people's  rights and security, access to the judiciary is required. It helps to create a just society. So, all the officials of the constitutional bodies, civil society members, media and commoners need to support the judiciary.”

The judiciary has been marking Baisakh 26 (May 9 this year) as the Law Day to remind the establishmet of the Supreme Court in 1951 through the promulgation of the Pradhan Nyayalaya Ain (Supreme Court Act). Joshee also called for strictly implementing the principle of independence of judiciary and the separation of power among the state organs.
