MUGU,April 22:  The authorities seems to be silent despite of the construction of maternity hospital that has become lame  due to lack of maternal and child health workers  at the health posts of Karmarong rural municipality of Mugu.

There are five health post and three maternity hospitals in the village. Out of three, the buildings of Pulu and Kimri maternity hospital are at vulnerable stage whereas the only functioning maternity hospital of Mangri does not have enough health workers.

"Pregnant women visit the maternity post for regular health checkups. However, with lack of skilled manpower, they return without treatment and dissatisfied," Sarparaj Bham, health post in-charge said.

Most of the deployed auxiliary health worker, health assistants, auxiliary nurse midwives, and office assistants of health post and maternity hospitals seem to be under paid leave; thereby severely affecting access to quality maternal and child health care in the village.

"Without staff, pregnant women are either sent to district hospital or they are compelled to deliver at their home," Guru Chorden Lama, Auxiliary Health Worker (AHW) said.

Rural municipality secretary Chiring Kapne Lama highlighted the need of sufficient skilled human resources to provide maternal and child health services.  "If anybody is found to be irresponsible towards their duty, they will be punished,"  according to an official of Karmarong rural municipality.
