The meeting concluded that the government´s decision to legalize “illegal transactions” carried out by then “people´s government” is against the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Accord, interim constitution and existing laws of the land.
“We ask the UCPN (Maoist) the government to pay serious attention to the issue and immediately revoke the decision,” stated a joint statement undersigned by UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel.

The NC and UML had obstructed the House meeting on Tuesday and boycotted a meeting called by Prime Minister Bhattarai in protest of the government decision. The two parties are set to hold talks with various small parties, including the Madhes-based, to forge a common position on the issue.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, UML Chairman Khanal said both NC and UML have expressed serious reservations over the government decision. The two parties have agreed to exert pressure on the government to revoke the decision, he said.
NC Vice-president Paudel also accused the government of breaching all past agreements. “The Maoists have not shown any interest in concluding the peace process and drafting the new statute. This is a matter of great worry.”
