POKHARA, April 6: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Friday arrested two technicians of District Education Office on charge of receiving bribe from service seekers.

Engineer Chhabindra Bikram Khand and sub-engineer Pradeep Kumar Baniya were arrested by the anti-graft body after they refused to release the reconstruction budget of a school without receiving bribe.

Ramesh Dhakal, spokesperson of CIAA's regional office in Pokhara, said that the engineers were arrested red handed while receiving Rs 100,000 bribe from members of a community users' group. Members of the local users' group had registered a complaint at the anti-graft body after the engineers reportedly demanded bribe to release their payment.

"We arrested the accused based on complaints registered by the locals," said Dhakal adding, "We have also confiscated Rs 100,000 bribe from the accused."

After the consumers' group agreed to pay bribe, the accused had reached Delicious Fast Food Restaurant of Chipledhunga in Pokhara. A team deployed from the CIAA had arrested the accused while receiving bribery from the users' group.

The locals had completed the construction of school some two months ago but the engineers were refusing to release the budget arguing that the bills were not duly adjusted.

CIAA has started grilling the engineers about their involvement in the bribery case and the delay in releasing the budget.
