Distribution of national ID cards to begin within six months

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: The government is all set to issue national identity cards to 110 thousand people within six months in the first phase.

The national ID cards would be made employing the details collected by the Election Commission, the National Identity Card Management Centre stated.

More than 100 countries have adopted the national identity card system under which all the personal details of the card-holder would be archived through an automated chip.

Executive Director of the Centre, Dinesh Bhattarai said that seven thousand government employees would be mobilized for the distribution of the national identity card for the six months' period.

Article 61(f) (7) of the Constitution states that an integrated national identity management information system would be implemented for management of the information and details of the citizens in an integrated manner.

The central and local structure of the national identity card system would be in place and the cards distributed at an estimated cost of Rs 517.142 million provided in aid by the Asian Development Bank. RSS
