Vice-presidential election on March 23

KATHMANDU, March 15: The Election Commission (EC) has said the election for vice president will be held on March 23.
 
The election body on Wednesday unveiled the election program for vice-presidential elections. Candidates for vice-presidents are have been asked to file their candidacies on March 17. The EC said it will publish the list of candidates for vice president and has asked the members of the public to file complaints if any against the candidates on the same day, March 17. 

The election body will examine the complaints received against the candidates and publish the final list on March 18. Candidates wishing to withdraw their candidacy can do so on March 18.   
EC has already conducted local, provincial, federal parliamentary and presidential elections. With the completion of vice-presidential elections, an election cycle will come to an end as stated in the constitution.
 
Left alliance has decided to repeat incumbent Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun as its candidate for the post. The main opposition Nepali Congress has yet to decide about its candidate.
 
An electoral college comprising members of the provincial assemblies and federal parliament will elect vice-president. Based on strength gained by the political parties in the recent elections, left alliance candidate Pun is likely to be re-elected.
