KATHMANDU, Mar 1: Although youth covers nearly 40 percent of the country’s population, the field of youth entrepreneurship has not developed to its true potential in the country.

Youth depart the nation in droves every day due to the lack of employment opportunities at home or due to the complications on starting their own entrepreneurial venture.

While the problem of brain drain has severely affected the country, Bikas Udhyami launched its online portal -- Udhyami Nepal.

At an event organized in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Bikas Udhyami’s online portal was launched by the chief guest Madhav Dhungel, vice-chairperson of the National Youth Council (NYC). The website features a plethora of information for those youth willing to take an entrepreneurial role. The site guides young entrepreneurs from the very beginning. It guides them through the process of registering their firms by providing necessary information on possible funding agencies and major stakeholders. It also inspires and informs the youth on a wide range of professions through exemplary success stories of other entrepreneurs.

According to Bikas Udhyami CEO Santosh Gartaula, the site features news on different entrepreneurial issues that can assist both entrepreneurs and potential investors on government and private schemes and programs beneficial for entrepreneurs and looming threats that they should be cautious about.

Similarly, Gartaula added that the website also assists the public on locating service providers that are required in everyday life such as electricians, plumbers and construction workers.

Bikas Udhyami aims to assist potential entrepreneurs to get access to all the required information one would need to start-up a business within the country so that youth can make a living through entrepreneurship. This would be an important step toward curbing brain drain, according to Gartaula.
