NA election concludes, results to be published by Friday

The National Assembly election of six provinces has concluded.  The elections were held in Biratnagar, Lalitpur, Pokhara, Dang, Surkhet and Doti. Constitutionally, there will be a 59-member upper house. Out of the total 59 members of the upper house, the election will elect 56 members while the government itself will nominate the remaining three members. There were no elections in Province 2 as all the candidates were elected unopposed. 

Inaccessible heath facility kills three-month-baby girl in Rukum

A three-month old girl of Puthauttargnga rural municipality-10 in the district died from diarrhea. The deceased, daughter of Shyam Bahadur BK, was suffering from the disease for the past five days, and died on Sunday for want of timely treatment.

Student unions seek educational reforms

Various students' unions have demanded that problems existing in the education sector be addressed. They have sought the government intervention in irregularities reported in the medical education sector. 

Regional seminar on wildlife health concludes with nine-point declaration

The two-day regional seminar on health science of tigers, Asian rhinos and elephants concluded issuing a nine-point declaration to protect wildlife.  The declaration has called for strategies for wildlife health management and their implementation, incorporating wildlife health management in university curriculum, the care of wild animals, establishing a well-equipped wildlife hospital in the Chitwan National Park and initiations to attract youths to the wildlife conservation and health management. 

6 dead, 88 missing as quake hits Taiwan

Rescuers were working Wednesday to try to reach people who were trapped after a strong earthquake near Taiwan’s east coast caused several buildings to cave in and tilt dangerously. At least six people were killed and 88 missing in the quake.

Rafael Nadal to play at Queen's

Rafael Nadal has announced his intention to play at this year's Queen's tournament in the build-up to Wimbledon. he 31-year-old was forced to withdraw from both the 2016 and 2017 editions of the week-long competition due to injury but aims to return this summer, 10 years on from his one and only Queen's victory.
