KATHMANDU, Feb 2: Seeking an order to government authorities not to infringe on the rights of the commoners during visits by very important persons (VIPs), a writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday.

Saying that there is a practice of halting transportation and movement of commoners by citing VIP visits, Gyaneshwor Koirala recently filed the petition at the apex court. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation have been named defendants in the petition.

Claiming that the right to freedom of the common people has been curtailed by the activities of the VIP, the petitioner has asked the apex court to order the authorities not to curtail the rights of the commoners.
