NSU leaders protest outside convention hall

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: A group led by Kundan Kafle, a candidate in the race for the Chairman of Nepal Students' Union (NSU), protested at Bhrikuti Mandap area on Tuesday.

The group protested outside the venue for the closed session of the 11th General Convention of NSU, a student wing of Nepali Congress (NC), demanding to hold convention in according to the rules and protection of the lives of the students in hunger strike.

A brief scuffle between the group and police occurred as the law enforcement agency barred them from entering the convention area.  

Currently, the group is holding a corner assembly where student leaders are airing their views.

Speaking at the assembly, student leaders Dilliram Subedi,  Yubraj Pandey, Sailendra Sharma, Parmeshwor Shah, Bipin Adhikari, Mukti Poudel among others demanded to hold convention in accordance to rules.

The student leaders made as such demand saying that the party’s leaders are in secret talks to select a new leadership through partition.

Two NSU leaders are on fast-unto-death demanding to hold a convention in accordance to rules by correcting the issues of ‘fake’ representatives.  

Before, the start of the convention, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba had met the agitating leaders and assured them of finding out a solution.  
The convention was postponed till 2 pm today after senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel demanded to select the leadership through partition.
