BHIMDATTANAGAR,June 17: Collection of timber from the Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve has started for the reconstruction of houses destroyed by the April 25, 2015 earthquake. 

The collection starts following the decision of the Cabinet meeting on April 1 to this effect. 
As part of the drive, timber of around 4,460 trees felled by strong winds around two years ago would be collected for the purpose, said the reserve information officer Gopal Ghimire. 

Khemraj Joshi, Mahendranagar Chief of the state-owned Timber Corporation of Nepal (TCN) which is authorized to collect the timber said that around 8,000 cubic feet felled timbers had been collected until the second week of June. 

He said that the collected timbers would be sawn in Kanchanpur and handed over to the National Reconstruction Authority, an authorized body to carry out post-reconstruction works, for the reconstruction of damaged-houses. 

Joshi added that of the collected timbers, 70 percent would be used in the reconstruction works while 20 percent would be sold by the TCN itself. 

Likewise, the remaining 10 percent would be set aside for sale in the premises of the buffer zone of the reserve. RSS
