Taking part in an interaction entitled " New Constitution and Secularism" organized here on Sunday, former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana said though the Interim Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed secularism, laws contravening it still exist.[break]
UCPN (Maoist) central member Rekha Sharma said voices for holding people´s referendum before announcing secularism through the new statute are being raised and the stakeholders concerned should be aware of this.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Shobhakar Parajuli said secularism has not been institutionalized because of the delay in promulgating the new constitution.
Similarly, CPN-UML leader Sher Bahadur Tamang said the religion related issues can be connected to the prosperity of the nation. And for this, religion tourisms can be developed and promoted through the development of historic religious sites like the Lumbini and the Pashupatinath, he added.
Likewise, Co-Chairman of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Republican) Raj Kishor Yadav stressed that the state should recognize all religions equally.
Lawmaker Binod Pahadi, former President of Nepal Bar Association Bishwakanta Mainali said,"Religion is a matter of personal independence" and the good aspects of it should be followed while negating the negative sides to it in order to maintain religious tolerance in the country.
