KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala has said that he would fight throughout his life for safeguarding democracy. 

At a congratulation and felicitation program organized here today by Democratic Thought Society, Koirala pledged to wage struggle for the defense of democracy and country development. "I will take into consideration the advice of the Society while discharging my responsibility", he said. 

He further promised to work for the country's development by embracing the thoughts put forth by BP Koirala. 

Society Chairperson Prof Dr Jayaraj Acharya said that the NC has come across unexpected defeat in the recent elections for failing to adopt the ideals of BP Koirala. 
On the occasion, NC general secretary Dr Koirala was felicitated for being elected to the House of Representative from Nawalpur Constituency-1.
