Chapagain bags first prize in Worldwide Nepali Poetry Video Contest

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: Menuka Chapagain of Morang has bagged the first prize in the Worldwide Nepali Poetry Video Contest 2017 held by Chhanda Alankar, an association of Nepali litterateurs.

Chapagain’s poem titled ‘Mero Yahi Swarga’ (this is itself my heaven), was selected online as the best poem in the contest held on Monday (January1, 2018).

Similarly, Sabina Regmi, a Nepal migrant in Japan, stood in the second position. Title of her poem was ‘Farkanchhu Afnai Ghar’ (I will return to my own home.”

Likewise, Govinda Gopal Khatiwada’s poem ‘Nafarkane Sathisita’ was ranked third while Rohit Parai’s ‘Yubalai Ahwan’ and Bhawani Khatiwada’s ‘Nepalrastra Bandana’ were given consolation prizes.

As many as 102 Nepali poets from various countries including America, Britain, South Korea, Japan, India had taken part in the poetry competition held on the occasion of New Year 2018.

 A three-member panel of judges led by Dr Devi Nepal selected the poems online in which Durga Rijal and Kabinarayan Gaunle were members.

The poems were submitted online and selected on the basis of their meters, rhyme, spellings and other technical aspects.
