All-round Maharoof leads Kings XI to maiden win

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: A 39 runs cameo promoting himself at number three the Kathmandu Kings XI skipper Farveez Maharoof delivered first win of their campaign in EPL 2017. He also picked up three important wickets earlier in first innings of seventh match of the marquee cricket event. This was Kings XI’s first win in three attempts.

Maharoof scored three fours and two sixes. He was supported by Amit Shrestha who continued his good form by scoring another 38 runs at top of the innings. Amit smashed seven fours in his innings.

Chitwan’s Indian recruit Praveen Gupta was pick of the bowlers for registering the bowling figures of 4-1-23-1. Pramesh Kumar, Shahab Alam and Chitwan skipper who came to bowl the penultimate over of the match picked up one wicket each.

Earlier, Dilip Nath’s 46 at the top of the order including five fours and a six helped Chitwan Tigers put 142 runs on board for their second match against Kathmandi Kings XI. Farveez Maharoof, the Kings XI skipper, was pick of the bowlers scalping three wickets in his four over spell conceding only 21 runs.

Dilip Nath was aided by Tigers’ Indian recruit Shabez Khan who made 27 runs that included two towering soxes over long –on and long-off reasons landing in sand banks. Kings XI conceded 14 extras in the field including seven wides and two no-balls by Sompal Kami in the last over of the innings. Sagar Pun picked up one wicket but completed three catches in the field, one from his own bowling.

Yogendra Karki and Kamal Singh Airee contributed 17 and 12 runs each. Amar Singh Routela and Bikram Bhusal chipped in with one wicket each.

Earlier, Kathmandu Kings Xi won the toss and elected to bowl first.
