Senior leader of CPN-UML and former deputy prime minister Bhim Bahadur Rawal was elected to the central parliament from constituency no. 1 of Achham in the recently held elections. Republica's district reporter Khamma Khatri spoke to Rawal about his future plans and agendas: Excerpts:

How do you feel after winning?

CPN-UML is the party which has always prioritized national integrity, unity, sovereignty and freedom of people. We grabbed a glorious victory in the local elections and fortunately we were able to repeat the same in the parliamentary and provincial elections too. The Nepali people want to shape their future on their own and move toward the path of success and prosperity. That is why, they've entrusted me with this responsibility.

What are your major priorities?

Uplifting the economic standard of people and decreasing the unemployment rate will be my first priority. Besides that, utilization and mobilization of natural resources will also be my priority.

How will you coordinate with other parties?

We want to amend the constitution of Nepal through an agreement with all the other parties including the Nepali Congress (NC). Winning and losing is part of a competition. However, it is the responsibility of all political parties to lead the nation toward the path of development and progress. So, I urge the leaders of all parties to participate in and work for the welfare of the nation.

What are the major problems in your constituency?

Locals here are grappling with various problems such as the lack of transportation and electricity and prevailing unemployment, among others. So, I will try to solve these problems.

What will be your first three projects?

First, we will make efforts to improve the condition of all kinds of transportation in the district. Secondly, creating employment opportunities for youths is equally important. Thirdly, we will be solving the existing problems in the education sector and uplift the standard of education.

Locals have time and again accused lawmakers of selling false dreams. What do you say?

Despite being entrusted with the responsibility of running the government several times, Nepali Congress (NC) could not bring many changes in the country. We were in the government for a short period of time. So, we could not do much for the people and the country despite our will. But this time we are all set to win the hearts of people by delivering on all our promises.

What do you want to say to your voters?

At first, I would like to thank all of them for trusting me. I hope they will keep showering me with their love and blessings for my future endeavors. I won't disappoint my voters.
