Eking out a living
Purnakali Rai is a 33-year-old weaver at Kapan. She is originally from Dang. Despite having a prosthetic leg after her legs were burnt when she was a child, Purnakali has been weaving to earn a living since three years now.
Earlier, she used to sell chatpate (spicy snacks) on the streets. She prepares around 10 inches of Pashmina cloth each day. Happily married for 13 years now, Purnakali currently lives with her husband and their daughter. Her husband is also differently abled and involved in the weaving business. She believes that life is not very easy for differently abled people.
