KATHMANDU, Nov 25: The Election Commission prohibits the use of public as well as private vehicles in 32 districts on Sunday.

According to Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal of EC, the prohibition will come into effect from Saturday midnight to Sunday 5:00 pm, in all 32 districts where the first phase of the election of House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly is taking place.

"Public vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the road during the elections and even after the voting is over", Dhakal said.

 The first phase election will be held on 32 districts on Sunday as 7 districts in province 1, 6 districts in province 2, 6 districts in province 4, 2 districts in province 5, 6 districts in province 6 and 4 districts in province 7.

The EC, however, stated that on the polling day, it would allow ambulances and vehicles used by emergency services, security agencies, national observers, diplomatic officials, press and the commissions after they get approval from the concerned authorities.

Dhakal said the EC has imposed prohibitory order vehicular movement on the polling day to ensure free and fair elections. Dhakal said, “Banning public and private vehicles are necessary to ensure that people who want to manipulate votes and voters intending to cast bogus votes cannot travel easily."

The EC has decided that the candidates and political party's leaders also need the permission from the authorized department for the operation of vehicles on the polling day.

Light vehicles and motorcycles will be provided the pass to manage mobility of old age and disabled.

There are 282 candidates are vying including women for House of Representatives and 702 candidates are contesting for Provincial Assemblies elections.

According to EC, there is 919 polling station for four thousand 465 polling centers. In the first phase of the elections, there are three million, 191 thousand and 945 eligible voters to cast the vote.
