KATHMANDU, Nov 19: The Fifteenth Handicraft Trade Fair, which started at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu on Friday, has received more than 25,000 visitors on its second day. Issuing a statement, Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) said that the expo drew transactions worth nearly Rs 10 million on the second day. More than 300,000 people are expected to visit the five-day-long fair, according to FHAN.
Ten senior artists aged over 70 were felicitated on the second day in recognition of their contribution to the handicraft sector, according to the statement. Alongside the fair, an important business-level meeting was held at Annapurna Hotel on Saturday. The meeting featured Nepali handicraft traders and delegates and handicraft traders from China, Japan, USA, Germany, Pakistan, Bhutan, and India.
Forty-two people are participating in 13th Craft Competition, which is being organized alongside the fair.
The fair, mainly supported by the Ministry of Commerce, has 10 pavilions and 180 stalls showcasing handicraft goods like wood carvings, ceramics, woolen clothes, accessories, and other handmade items from Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and China. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had inaugurated the trade fair on Friday.
