3 members of a family remanded in custody for further investigation

BUTWAL, July 6: Rupandehi District Court has sent three people involved in the alleged murder of Samiksha Thakuri to jail for further investigation.

Three people of a family had been arrested on the charge of killing 16-year-old Samiksha Thakuri of Kanchan rural municipality-5. Tej Bahadur Thakuri, father of Samiksha, grandmother Harikala Thakuri and Shova Rana alias Amrita, Samiksha’s aunt, have been sent to district jail on the charge of killing his daughter and his granddaughters.

A single bench of Judge Sharada Prasad Koirala of Rupandehi District Court on Sunday ordered to send Samiksha’s father, grandmother and her aunt to jail on the charge of murder while Madhu Thakuri, the other accused is at large.

Assistant District Attorney Ananda Sharma, a government prosecutor of Rupandehi district had advocated the case on behalf of the petitioner (government) while the advocate Liladhar Marasini had advocated on behalf of the defendant.

One June 23, Shamiksha was set on fire after being doused in kerosene. She succumbed to burn injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu after 11 days.

Maya Thakuri, Shamiksha’s mother, who was in Iraq, returned to Nepal and filed an FIR at the police station claiming that family members themselves set her on fire by dousing her in kerosene.

However, the reason why Samiksha was murdered is yet to be revealed.
